The whole point of the Tony Awards being a live telecast is to expose people to content and shows that they otherwise would not have had access to. The Band’s Visit doesn’t have a giant name attached to it (except for Tony Shalhoub) and although it’s based on a film, it’s one that not many people know. Be happy that it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves and don’t shame those who are finally able to see how incredible it is, because frankly, with a small show like The Band’s visit that had all the odds against it, it can use EVERY LAST BIT of recognition. The Tony Awards increase accessibility. Let’s make sure that we’re actively supporting that by celebrating new fans.
